To practice reversing and backing up, a parking lot or back alley works well to improve these driving skills.
Welcome back.
Rick for Smart Drive Test talking to you today about reversing for the purposes of passing a road test.
And yes, you can use one hand on the top of the steering wheel, the other hand behind the passenger seat on the vehicle.
And turn and look out the back window.
And leave your seatbelt on for the duration of the road test, especially for passenger vehicles.
You get into the higher class licenses, CDL and whatnot, you can take your seatbelt off to reverse.
But passenger vehicle, leave your seatbelt on for the duration of the test.

Now, reversing for the purposes of road tests, this is a remake of the original video because I had some comments from different smart drivers around the world saying that you can't take your seatbelt off for the purposes of a road test, and that is correct information.
After you get your license, most places in the world do allow you to take your seatbelt off to back up.
There are a few exceptions to that rule, so just check your rules and regulations and legislation in your state or province where you are in the world.
But for the purposes of passing a road test, you have to leave your seatbelt on for the duration of the test. (seatbelt clicks)
And as well, when you're backing up and you're looking out the back window, every vehicle length, approximately every vehicle length, stop the vehicle, do a 360° degree scan, and then look out the back window and continue reversing.
By learning how to reverse in a parking lot or alleyway, you'll find that reverse stall parking is easy because you've already learned the fundamentals of backing.This is a fundamental skill for the slow-speed maneuvers that you're going to be required on a road test.
Parallel Parking, Three-point Turn, Reverse Stall Parking, and some of you may have to do Two-point Reverse Turn as well.
But you can be almost guaranteed on a road test that you're going to have to do parallel parking, three-point turn, and reverse stall parking.
Those three you're going to be almost guaranteed that you're going to have to do them on a road test anywhere in the world for the purposes of earning your license, so know that.
The other thing I'm going to tell you, reversing, backing up the vehicle, and doing all those slow-speed maneuvers, is going to improve your overall driving.
So know that for the purposes of a road test.
If you're having challenges with any aspect of your driving, your turns are too wide or too narrow or whatnot, or you're having trouble parking, come back to the slow-speed maneuvers, and those will improve your overall driving.
Slow-speed manoeuvres and reversing will improve your overall driving and make you smarter.So what we're going to do here is I'm going to hook up the cameras.
And we're going to show you how to reverse for the purposes of passing a road test, and get you on your way to being successful.

Approximately one vehicle length, stop the vehicle, 360° degree scan, nobody here.
And we go around the corner, making sure there aren't any vehicles.
Stop, 360° degree scan, no vehicles.

And that's how you do it for the purposes of a road test.
So, into reverse, hand on top of the steering wheel, other hand on the back of the passenger seat.
Looking out the back window.
Steering the vehicle, stopping the vehicle.
360° degree scan, continue backing.
Stopping the vehicle, 360° degree scan, nobody there.
Complete your back.
And stopping, and that's how you do it for the purposes of passing a road test.
Reversing for the purposes of passing a road test.
One hand on top of the steering wheel, the other hand behind the passenger seat, and looking out the back window.
The only state that I'm aware of that you can use a backup camera is the state of New Jersey.
Other than that, this is the technique that you need to do, and for every vehicle length that you back up, stop the vehicle, pause, do a 360° degree scan, and then resume your backing up.
For the purposes of passing a road test, this is a fundamental skill for Reverse Stall Parking, Parallel Parking, Three-point Turn, and Two-point Reverse Turn.
You're going to need to be able to do this for all of those other skills.
And slow-speed maneuvers and reversing the vehicle are going to improve your overall driving.
By spending time learning to reverse, you other parking manoeuvres for a road test will be much, much easier.So if you're having any challenges with any other part of your driving, go back to these, and this will help you with your overall driving.
